Donating Plasma

Plasma is the liquid portion of blood and contains proteins and antibodies essential for medical treatment. A typical plasma donation takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Blood type AB is the universal plasma type.

Plasma is used to create treatments for immune disorders, burns, trauma and bleeding conditions. Most healthy individuals 17 and older who meet weight and health requirements are eligible to donate. Plasma donation is safe, and donation centers use sterile, single-use equipment for every donor. The body replaces donated plasma within 24 to 48 hours.

One plasma donation can help provide treatment for multiple patients. Call 423-408-7500 for more information.
